I mentioned in my intro faith post, I want to get into reading the word. My former pastor talked about SOAP journals as a way to commune with God and to get into the word. He even shared his soap journals with the congregation.
In hopes that you find the process as helpful and inspiring as I did, I decided to share my first entry with you.
S is for Scripture: John 15:12-15 King James Version (KJV)
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.John
Ois for Observation: What about your friends? Will they be around are they gonna let you down again? What about your friends?
This is deep! I think my favorite part is verse 15. I mean he is breaking down this whole loyalty thing to those we call friends. This is so important to me because our strongest sphere of influence is with our friends.
We should be building genuine, loving and open relationships with our brothers and sisters. We would be sharing messages from the father with them. We should not withhold the truth. These things are best received from friends.
Ais for Application: I be all outta order.
I have a diverse group of friends with many backgrounds. I do openly share my values and my faith but sometimes I’m guilty of going beyond just respectful coexisting to cosinging behavior that doesn’t align with my belief system. Partially because I’m not completely straight myself. Go knows I’m ratchet and is working on me. I could stand to get cleaner and clearer, so that I consistently exhibit my values.
Pis for prayer: Help me, I’m ratchet.
Father God, I’m so far from where I want to be in my walk with Christ. There are things around lust and sexual immoral behavior that sit deep within me. I pray that I can grow in consistency and that my actions always be acceptable in your sight, especially while driving. In Jesus name, Amen.
So. That was harder than I thought. I will give myself a break because this is MY FIRST entry.
One of the things I struggled with was even choosing a scripture, so I Googled “devotionals for women.” That helped. One of the things I’m struggling with is that I don’t know where to start.
So sis, do you read the word? If so, was it hard at first or still hard? If you don’t read the word, how do you feed your faith? Is there something stopping you? Don’t be afraid to share all your favorite methods for feeding your faith. My faith is starving.
